Do you remember a movie starring Keanu
Reeves? It was called 47 Ronin.
>> Yes, I do. I do.
>> That movie of 47 Ronin was directed by a
guy named Carl Erik Rinsch.
>> Okay.
>> And based on the success of that and
probably other things he did, he was
able to get a a deal for a science
fiction TV show on Netflix. Netflix has
a lot of money
and they're willing to kind of
underwrite these shows. And a science
fiction show ain't cheap, Matt Cox.
>> Yeah.
>> Right? And so Netflix put $44 million
into this Rinsch show. And Carl goes
back and says, "Hey, I need another $11
million to get this thing done."
And Netflix wires in the money.
And with one expectation. Oh, this show
is called White Horse.
>> White Horse.
>> You must use this money to finish White
Horse. Right? Okay. And we we're in this
thing for $55 million. That's a lot for
a TV show.
What Carl did, instead of putting the
money into the show, he he starts moving
the money through bank accounts and his
personal brokerage account.
He then begins making some some very
highly speculative stock options bets
using Netflix money that he's supposed
to use for the TV show. And he loses
half of this $11 million.
He lost the money in 2 months. It's just
gone. But he still has 5.5 million
bucks. Maybe you can slice and cut some
things here, cut some things there. Not
him. He decides to move the money into
cryptocurrency.
He takes $1.7 million
of the remaining money to pay off his
credit card bills.
He spends $3.3 million in furniture,
antiques, and mattresses. This is
Netflix's money, not his. $387,000 on a
Swiss watch and $2.4 million for five
Rolls-Royces and a red Ferrari.
>> This guy's not good with money.
>> He's not good with money. Eventually,
Netflix figures out like, you know, why
what happened to the money and calls in
the FBI. It takes it to trial. The jury
convicts him of wire fraud. And at his
sentencing, and this is significant,
Keanu Reeves is among the people who
write the judge and ask for leniency.
>> Carl's not a bad guy.
>> Did you see your Ronin?
>> 47 Ronin, it was great. Not
my best work, but
So, Keanu Reeves says, "Give Carl a
break." And the judge needs to take that
into account cuz he's a national
treasure.
>> He is.
Uh
He was either Bill or Ted in Bill &
Ted's Excellent Adventure.
>> He's sticking up for Carl.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah, he probably hung out with Carl.
Probably liked Carl.
>> So, Carl's in for 11 million, rips off
Netflix.
>> I would say four four years.
>> 48 months in prison?
>> Yeah.
>> Did you forget the part where Keanu
Reeves said, "Give him a break"?
>> I did. I did, and that is very
impressive. I would would knock a month
off for it.
>> So, you're going 48 months?
>> Yeah.
>> Final answer?
>> Yeah.
>> You sure?
>> Yeah.
>> All right.
Correct answer, Matt Cox. 30 months in
federal prison.
And
>> That is written.
>> Ridiculous.
