thank you to skillshare one of my
favorite apps to use on the iPad for
sponsoring this video hello my friends
it's Simon the iPad it's the perfect
device for consuming content creating
and learning but many of us only scratch
the surface of what it can do and let's
be honest we don't really unlock its
potential Beyond watching a few videos
and writing notes most of the time so if
you want to get the most out of your
expensive piece of metal and glass you
are going to want to choose your iPad
accessories carefully in this video I'll
show you the best accessories I found
that make buying an iPad worth the
investment and how some of these lesser
known accessories will unlock and reveal
new ways to use the iPad that you might
not have realized well possible links to
the mentioned Tech are all in the
description as always and by the way
these are all things I'm using regularly
so treat it as a shortcut Discovery list
rather than a review because I just like
them all so the first category I'm going
to call iPad Essentials because these
are the two things that are worth
getting absolutely right to make sure
that your iPad is used in the way that
it's designed to function and they make
it better at what it does better than
both a phone and a laptop because it's
neither first the right stand or cover
is going to go a long way to make it a
versatile device in your hand and then
when it's on your desk here are my top
choices over the years the charen pro
magnetic stand it's called the mag flot
this is what I think is probably the
best made and most well-designed stand
in terms of Aesthetics and it allows for
both landscape and portrait viewing
there's also the mag flot Pro which has
an extendable device here which allows
you to raise it up so it'll work really
well next to say your laptop or a
monitor and your computer using
universal control maybe you'd prefer to
consider a sand that also allows you to
use your apple pencil effectively and
for this I absolutely love the banks
stand and this is because it still looks
good on your desk it's got a nice
turning system it moves rather nicely
but it also works really well as an
angled stand so I can lower it down to
the desk and then you've got a nice
platform from which to work like a
draftsman's board so if you like to draw
take notes this is an absolute
no-brainer and what's really cool about
it cuz it's magnetic you can magnetize
it to something like a desk shelf so you
might want to combine a stand like that
with something like a removable folio
cover and you're going to have the best
of both worlds a magnetic folio case
like this one from pitia I've had it for
years and it's absolutely brilliant I'm
actually using my iPad as a teleprompter
right now so it's not on there but it's
a protective cover and it's also really
Fab because it automatically turns the
iPad off when you close it and yet of
course it's going to double as a stand
you've probably seen these before but I
particularly like the way that this one
behaves and it keeps things nice and
light and portable and what's really
cool is because this is separate this
cover you can keep things nice and
simple okay I'm aware we probably need
to talk about those Apple keyboard and
folio case options right but that's for
later because we can't talk about
essential iPad accessories without
focusing on the apple pencil and between
the feature set low latency it's the
only option to choose simply put if you
buy an iPad budget in the pencil as well
the apple pencil is the key accessory
that will unlock its potential and
probably the only native Apple accessory
I would always recommend committing to
don't go third party it's just too good
and unless you've gone for the 10th gen
iPad that only supports the apple pencil
USBC go for the second gen apple pencil
for Native charging on the air mini and
Pro Models the double tap feature and
the pressure sensitive drawing are all
fantastic and essential and a notable
mention in this section it's not a fad
they really are worth it check out the
paperlike screen cover or maybe the
latest offering from pentips they both
give you that nice feel of writing on
paper rather than glass and the paper
like 2.1 screen has that advantage of an
improved screen Clarity but it also
helps cut down on those Reflections so
it's actually really nice other than the
feeling of drawing on it so adding the
apple pencil is then a number one
accessory to make the iPad so much
better for Creative tasks Hobbies like
photo editing video editing drawing
notetaking planning and researching and
on on that note if you invest some time
learning you'll also be able to unlock a
new world of creative skills and ways of
working on your iPad so before we dive
into keyboards and iPad desk setup tools
let me show you what I mean and how I've
been combining my iPad with today's
sponsor skillshare now if you don't know
by now skillshare is the largest online
community for creatives with thousands
of classes led by industry Pros across
film illustration design freelance
productivity and more I've been using it
recently to learn how to create myself a
digital planner and prompted journaling
template to use in an iPad notetaking
app like good notes or notability there
were classes on everything I needed from
digital design for the templates to
advice on effective guided journaling
practices in this curated learning path
I can even go into split screen mode on
the iPad and learn and follow along at
the same time in fact skillshare have
designed a bunch of great learning paths
like this one on using procreate Basics
if creativity is more your they'll have
all you need to get from novice to Pro
super fast so learning paths are
handpicked classes meant to be taken in
order that build on one another
reinforcing the lessons they're
available in a range of experience
levels from beginner to advance and
variety of categories including design
productivity and tools and software like
procreate and blender marketing and all
the rest I'd say this has definitely
helped me make the most of my apple
pencil so this year invest in yourself
and your goals by starting learning on
skillshare and take your career skills
and side hustle to the next level I
genuinely use it and absolutely love it
I'll even be releasing my own class on
there very soon so keep an eye out for
that the first 500 people to use my link
in the description will receive a one
Monon free trial to skillshare so go get
started today and thank you skillshare
for sponsoring this part of the video
next we just have to address that
keyboard question should you commit to
the very expensive magic keyboard from
Apple well whilst it's brilliant you
could both save your money and offer
more versatility portable and quality of
experience in some ways with these next
options and approaches so first of all
this is the folio not the magic keyboard
I personally feel it's good to avoid the
expense of Apple accessories for the
iPad most of the time other than if you
know you want to spend 90% of your time
in laptop mode and in which case nothing
really comes close to the Apple magic
keyboard no one has managed to replicate
the quality of the trackpad the way it
Powers Plus the magic keyboard version
as an extra USB C port charge leaving
the other three for moving stuff around
and plugging in docks which we'll talk
about in a minute but remember it's just
so damn expensive and I reckon an iPad
Pro 12.9 in with that magic keyboard is
going to be heavier than most MacBook
setups now the magic keyboard folio is
another interesting option to get the
same quality trackpad and keys but with
the bonus the fact that it detaches from
the back and you can still have that
nice tablet carrying system which I
really think is worth considering ing
but at the other end of the scale there
are great options to gather a set of
different iPad desk setup tools docs
keyboard mouse and you have a much more
flexibility to do more with the iPad in
different situations so these NEX
accessories will help you do your
day-to-day work admin much more easily
and get much closer to that laptop or
desktop experience so the first one is
the perfect portable mouse this is the
Microsoft Ark 2 Mouse I've not really
found better functionality and
portability in a mouse than this and
using it with an iPad brings out a ton
of new functionality pairing it with a
Bluetooth keyboard is often a much less
expensive alternative to those apple
options personally for me having a
simple case around the iPad as a
notebook or a reader is really great and
then you can jump to The Mouse and the
keyboard when you want to get some
serious work done now when it comes to
keyboards if I want the best typing
experience I can then also choose a
mechanical keyboard if I want to get
that exact sound and feel that I want
now my top choices for an iPad are
probably those portable low profile
mechanical options a couple of my
favorites the lrey flow this one is a
rather nice match to that space gray
design of a lot of things that we've
seen in the past has a nice sound we've
got this one from Kyron this is the K3
Pro very similar a little bit lighter
weight also metal build really beautiful
and the functionality and perhaps the
size of this is a little bit more
exciting but probably my favorite for
both quality portability and just sound
and feel is in this this it also comes
with a case if you want to and this is
the Nui a60 just the sound and the
quality of this is
gorgeous I really like using it if you
want to go full desktop mode check out
the all metal and Hefty Q2 or Q60 Max
options from Kyron they pair with up to
three Bluetooth devices and I talk about
those in one of my recent Tech videos
and on that note if you are enjoying
this video take a moment to subscribe
and drop me a like and you'll find a ton
of other death Tech productivity and
notion Solutions on this channel now if
you want to connect more devices offload
photos and video from your mirrorless
camera or maybe just connect to a larger
monitor this little dock is the one I
keep coming back to it is the most
portable simple and effective dock I
found and I've tried a few it's called
the hyperdrive 6-in-1 USB C Hub and has
everything that you might need there's a
3.5 mil headphone jack on there an HD Mi
on one end SSD card slots it really does
have most of the connections that I
would ever want to add to an iPad but
you can just slip it in your pocket and
it doesn't get in the way and it can
just connect onto the iPad and looks
pretty clean I think on the system when
you're using it and in terms of fully
committing to that desk setup my current
external monitor of choice for a Mac is
the BenQ PD 2725 U it's a 4K
industrially designed display with great
features that works with both Mac and
iPad but hey if you want that more
native 5K option just spend all of those
savings on the Apple Studio display I
guess but why would you do that for an
iPad that was just wild so now you're
doing a lot more with your iPad you're
going to likely need a bit more storage
to manage all those great ideas and
projects and it doesn't come cheap when
you spec it directly onto the device
with apple when you order but there are
going to be some other great Solutions
so I recommend grabbing a little bit of
a saving and getting a bigger and
cheaper external SSD storage device and
this is a great example I edited over 50
videos on this channel directly from
this SSD on Luma Fusion on the iPad when
I first got started now I recommend the
SanDisk Extreme Pros they're rugged
beautifully made super fast read and
write speeds and you can get one two and
I think four terabyte versions of them
or how about this one this is the
crucial X9 Pro it's super tiny this
little thing is not to do with it I've
actually hacked mine and I've reverse
stuck a phone mount onto it and the
reason for that is with a tiny cable I
can plug that in and magnetically mount
it to the iPad and how about that so
that's all great but you aren't truly
making the most of your iPad without a
few accessories that add a little audio
visual spice to the proceedings and with
a little bit of creative thinking this
last collection of accessories for your
iPad can make it a brilliant portable
creative Studio a device to stay
connected with your friends with some
serious Flex on video and even a gaming
monitor so first up podcasting or just
great audio on your video calls check
out what is known in the trade as the
road Wireless goto you may have heard of
it I've also got this road interview go
you can see it's just a plastic
extension basically but it's a nice
thing to be able to mount it and I find
I quite prefer the sound like this I've
used this for years just plugged in via
the receiver and the USBC connection
directly to the iPad or my laptop in
fact for really great sound on your zoom
and video calls and if you wanted to get
yourself going with a portable podcast
setup these plus an iPad and a couple of
little stands and you're away you could
also check out Road's recent release of
the Pod mic USB as a great affordable
option to get real quality in your
portable recording studio so I suppose
the next thing to do would be to improve
the camera so this here is the opal Tad
poll they sent this over to me and uh
it's a really cool little clipon webcam
it's USBC you get a much higher quality
view on your webcam and you can clip it
to the top of the iPad so you're not
going to have that side video camera
that we've had on so many models so far
it's a cool little device I reviewed
their larger C1 webcam backed by MKBHD
last year but this feels a little silly
on the iPad so you could use this one
instead and how about this iOS 17 has
recently allowed for UVC devices and
that means a capture card can be used
with your iPad this is USBC to HDMI and
it will send a signal in into the iPad
amazing this is from gerok it's around
$20 and is an absolute steal to plug in
your mirrorless camera for a serious
video call flex but you could also use
this for other things you'll need iPad
OS 17 installed either capture Pro which
is in beta Capture One or my favorite
which is Orion you can pay $4.99 to
unlock things like 4K AI up resing which
is really impressive or just use it for
free but this little capture card will
essentially allow you to create a camera
feed out of an iPad so if you're a
content creator this is absolutely
amazing cuz they're they're perfect for
that but this will do even more and it
will turn your iPad into a monitor for
any of your consoles and if you're
looking for a compatible wireless gaming
controller this is the 8bit do pro two
and it's great with any game on IPad
also you can use it with apple arcade or
even did you know games from your
Netflix account they're free so from the
list of so far we've got a pretty
comprehensive set of options to make
more of our iPads so check out your
favorites via the affiliate links below
to support the channel in the process
right but all of these cool bits of tech
are useless unless you learn the best
ways to utilize them and the apps to use
them with so watch this video next for
