The median annual base salary for risk management professionals in the United States has risen steadily over the past 10 years, reaching $160,000 as of June 1, 2025, up from $115,000 in 2015. Over the past two years alone, the median annual base salary rose 10.9% from $144,300 in 2023, according to report data. Compensation rose 4.4% over the past year. Canadian risk management professionals have seen similar gains, with median annual base salary rising from CA$104,100 ($75,897) in 2015 to CA$140,000 as of June 1, 2025. Since 2023, the median annual base salary has risen 14.8% from CA$122,000 for Canadian risk management professionals. The increase was 4.1% over the past year. Education and experience tend to equate to higher compensation. In the U.S., risk management professionals with a degree higher than a bachelor’s typically earn $14,500 more than those with just a bachelor’s and $54,500 more than those without a degree. In Canada, compensation discrepancies appear to be tied to experience but not education. A Canadian risk management professional with at least 25 years of experience earns CA$72,000 more than those with less than 5 years of experience. The highest median salary in the U.S. among the positions analyzed belongs to the chief risk officer/vice president of risk management at $245,000, up 16% from $212,500 in 2023. In Canada, the jump in compensation was far greater, with a chief risk officer/vice president of risk management earning CA$225,000, more than double the CA$95,000 in 2023. A U.S. risk manager’s median annual base salary is $135,000, up from $122,000 in 2023. The results in the report are based on 1,068 respondents who indicated they were employed full-time as a risk management professional as of June 1, 2025, in the United States or Canada.
