The team will take home a $10,000 cash prize. Second place went to the University of South Wales in Australia, which received $7,500, and third place went to DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, which won $5,000. The teams had to present strategies to address fire risks arising from the improper disposal of lithium batteries. The case study was developed by Richard Rabs, vice president of risk and insurance at Lakeshore Recycling Systems in Rosemont, Illinois. This year’s judges were: Sandy Avina, claims services manager, California Schools JPA; Kristy Coleman, director of risk management, Warner Bros. Discovery; Cristian Iglesias, manager of risk services, The Cheesecake Factory; Jeff Stolle, vice president, risk management & treasury, Castle & Cooke; Tony Quinones, director, risk strategies & compliance, Walt Disney World & Disney Cruise Line; Catrina Gilbert, vice president, risk management, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport; and Tyler Vaughan, global risk manager, Cook Group.
