The goodies include smartwatch discounts, gift cards, hotel deals, retail savings and produce discounts. The setup works like a frequent-flier program, only instead of earning status for wedging yourself into seat 32B, customers climb from bronze to platinum by building healthier habits. One policyholder told NPR he had 5,400 points and was “silver, almost approaching gold.” John Hancock CEO Brooks Tingle was unusually blunt about the math: healthier customers live longer, pay premiums longer and are better for the company’s bottom line.
