Alex Wells has been selected to serve as CEO of Zurich U.S., subject to customary approvals, following the departure of Sierra Signorelli. Zurich described Wells as a seasoned commercial insurance executive with more than 25 years of experience. He most recently served as president of Zurich U.S.’s Middle Market, Programs, Captives and Direct Markets businesses, which together represent the firm’s largest business segment in the U.S. Since joining Zurich in 2020, he has reportedly guided its Middle Market business to double-digit growth while expanding talent and capabilities in underwriting and risk engineering, strengthening local market presence, and advancing specialised risk solutions and broker tools. Earlier in his career, Wells held senior leadership roles in commercial insurance for Chubb and ACE. Pending approval of the CEO appointment, Wells will be based at Zurich U.S. headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. Mario Greco, Group Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Insurance Group, commented, “Alex has deep expertise in large global accounts and midmarket customers, wholesale casualty and specialty verticals, and he has managed different distribution models. “He has a strong track record of delivering results, developing talent and helping teams perform at their best. His appointment positions us to build on the progress made in recent years. “We thank Sierra for her contribution and commitment during her time with us and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.” Wells said, “I am honoured by the opportunity to lead Zurich U.S. We are operating from a foundation of strength, supported by talented employees, strong customer and broker relationships, and a clear strategy. “Our focus remains unchanged: delivering for customers, supporting our distribution partners and executing with discipline in the market.”
