The coverage has been secured with insurers in the United States, London and Bermuda, as well as through nuclear pools and risk-retention vehicles, Marsh Risk said. The brokerage declined to disclose limit information and other details. The plant, located in Kemmerer, Wyoming, was approved for construction by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission earlier this month and is being developed as a public-private project with the U.S. Department of Energy. The sodium-cooled 345-megawatt electric plant is the first non-light-water reactor to be approved in more than 40 years. TerraPower said it is the first permit awarded for its Natrium plant design, which has a molten salt-based energy storage system, designed to allow it to increase power output when needed.
