A poll cited in the 2026 Japan Online Game Association’s Online Game Market Research Report found that 100% of the Japanese online game developers surveyed use generative AI, according to Eurogamer. Players identified copyright infringement and the risk that games will become increasingly alike as two of their leading concerns. Google’s Gemini was the most popular AI program, used by 94% of respondents, followed by Anthropic’s Claude at 84% and Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot at 76%. The enthusiasm comes at an awkward time for Google, as several publishers recently filed a proposed class action accusing the company of using copyrighted books without permission to train Gemini, TechCrunch reported. The plaintiffs also allege Google removed or changed copyright information to conceal the source of some training materials. Google had not responded to TechCrunch’s request for comment.
