Excess and Surplus Lines Bermuda Feb 17, 2026 Specialty insurer Pinion Insurance announced its launch Tuesday, saying it will offer capacity to managing general agents supported by up to $180 million in capital from investment management firm Barings. Incorporated in Bermuda and headquartered in London, the insurer was founded by former Fidelis executives Neil McConachie and Philip Vandoninck, and former McGill & Partners executive Laura Baird. Pinion is seeking regulatory approvals and an A.M. Best rating. In the U.S., it plans to obtain nationwide excess and surplus lines licenses by acquiring a shell insurer, according to a Pinion statement. It expects to begin binding business in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2026, with underwriting in the U.K. and European Union targeted for 2027. Pinion was formed from Pinion Risk Consulting, a data and analytics firm focused on the MGA sector, founded by Ms. Baird, chief technology officer of Pinion. “Pinion will be a bridge between high-performing MGAs and capital providers,” said Mr. McConachie, who is group CEO, said in the statement. Mr. Vandoninck is group chief underwriting officer of the company.
