The Los Angeles-based MGA said it has hired Kelly North as vice president of revenue, Christina Melia as director, lawyers professional liability and Sean Gleason as director, financial services as part of the expansion. Previously, Ocala, Florida-based Ms. North was vice president of business development of Pie Insurance; Odessa, Florida-based Ms. Melia was a vice president for a Brown & Brown’s lawyers professional liability program unit; and Mr. Gleason was a vice president, underwriting, at Argo. Counterpart, which started underwriting in 2020, has around 100 employees and uses artificial intelligence and data analytics to support its underwriting and claims operations, said CEO Tanner Hackett in an interview. “It’s about how do we leverage this data layer and build applications on top of it to empower talented insurance individuals to go build and partner with the right folks,” he said. Currently, it offers management liability coverage and professional liability coverage for allied health professionals, architects and engineers, and miscellaneous professional liability. It plans to launch several other professional liability-related products over the coming months, Mr. Hackett said.
