S.B. 522, now before the Senate Finance Committee, would authorize “licensed certified social workers-clinical” to conduct impairment evaluations for claims involving behavioral or mental health disorders. Under the bill, a social worker who meets specified training and experience requirements would be permitted to evaluate the extent of an employee’s permanent impairment when the condition stems from cognitive, emotional or behavioral health issues. Currently, such evaluations are typically conducted by physicians or psychologists certified in impairment rating.
