Roche will retire at year-end and named Richard W. Lavey CEO-elect. Mr. Lavey, 59, is currently chief operating officer and president of Hanover Agency Markets and joined The Hanover in 2004. He will work with Mr. Roche to ensure a smooth leadership transition, the Worcester, Massachusetts-based insurer said in a statement. As president of Hanover Agency Markets, Mr. Lavey leads a business that accounts for 75% of The Hanover’s $7 billion in consolidated gross premiums written. He previously held several leadership roles, including chief marketing officer, chief growth innovation officer, president of personal lines and president of the insurer’s Northeast region. Before joining The Hanover, Mr. Lavey held leadership positions in sales, distribution, marketing and strategy at several companies, including The Hartford and Travelers. He recently served as chairman of the board of the National Council on Compensation Insurance.
