Willis Re, a reinsurance advisory and broking joint venture between Bain Capital (BCIS) and WTW, has hired Jim Summers from rival broker Guy Carpenter to lead its Global Specialties operation, effective immediately. Summers assumes responsibility for strategic direction and driving growth across all specialty classes globally as CEO of the business. Working closely with Willis Re’s Senior Leadership Team, the CEO will help to strengthen the reinsurance broker’s international platform and support its growth ambitions. Summers, a well-known and respected market leader, brings more than four decades of industry experience across Lloyd’s and international reinsurance broking markets to the role. He has expertise across global specialty classes, and brings strong technical knowledge and a proven track record of developing long-standing client and reinsurer relationships to Willis Re. Most recently, he served as Deputy CEO Global Specialties, and Global Head of Marine & Energy Specialty at Guy Carpenter, having joined the broker in 2011. Previously, he served as CEO of Cooper Gay and Co Ltd.
