The medal for about 40,000 runners depicts landmarks along the 26.2-mile course, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. But instead of Allianz Stadium, home to local rugby and soccer teams, it shows the Allianz Arena, home to soccer giants Bayern Munich, the BBC reported. The stadiums are part of the German company’s “family of stadiums,” which includes sports venues in seven countries, according to the insurer. The Munich arena has a distinctive exterior of inflated panels, while the Sydney stadium has a flatter façade. The mix-up emerged after marathon organizers unveiled the medal on social media and encouraged runners to “look closely and you’ll find the story of the course in the details,” according to the BBC.
