A Feb. 20 outage knocked out phone and internet service to several Medina County facilities, including the county prosecutor’s office, UPI reported. Officials initially suspected contractors had sliced through underground fiber. Instead, the culprit was a squirrel that built a nest inside the fiber infrastructure and chewed through multiple lines, County Administrator Matt Springer told commissioners, the news agency reported. Officials are working with providers to prevent a repeat. For now, the unnamed squirrel joins a long list of its species that have been blamed for utility disruptions.
