A trust acting for a group of Red Lobster creditors has sued Thai Union in Orange County, Fla., blaming the seafood conglomerate for the chain’s near-collapse, according to reporting from CNBC. Thai Union was a former controlling shareholder of Red Lobster and the outfit selling it the shrimp and per the suit, it kept flogging the $20-a-head Ultimate Endless Shrimp deal even though it allegedly knew the chain was staring down insolvency. The complaint claims the supplier pushed Red Lobster to buy ever-larger piles of shrimp at above-market prices and even blocked a rival supplier from selling to the restaurants. The promotion itself, the lawsuit alleges, was dreamed up and rolled out over the objections of Red Lobster employees who didn’t answer to Thai Union. The payoff was operational gridlock: locations across the country were “immobilized,” running out of shrimp and unable to turn over tables of customers cheerfully working their way through plate number seven. Thai Union shed its stake in May 2024 and, the lawsuit says, never kicked in a dime of capital during Red Lobster’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The chain has soldiered on regardless — even reviving Endless Shrimp in April 2026 — while continuing to shutter restaurants, most recently its lone Hawaii outpost in Waikiki. The creditors now want a jury to put a number on the damage.
