According to The Washington Post, Disney recently issued cease-and-desist letters and warnings to a wide range of small businesses — from princess makeover providers to photographers and private chefs — telling them to stop offering services on resort grounds or risk trespassing enforcement. The company said the increase in outside vendors raised “safety and operational concerns” and could negatively affect the guest experience, citing long-standing rules prohibiting unauthorized commercial activity on its properties. The rationale appears straightforward: third-party operators introduce exposures Disney cannot easily control, including liability for injuries, food safety issues, unvetted background checks and inconsistent service quality — all of which still reflect on the brand, whether Mickey Mouse approved them or not. Many of the affected businesses were launched by furloughed or laid-off Disney employees during the pandemic and had become part of the unofficial “extended magic” ecosystem, offering in-room princess makeovers, custom cakes and vacation photography. Some vendors said they had operated for years without issue. The result, according to the report, canceled bookings, refunds and, in some cases, emotional fallout. “I’ve had mothers crying,” one vendor said after being forced to cancel princess makeover appointments that families were unable to replace through Disney’s own booked-up services.
