The complaint, Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC v. Carter et al ., filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleges that John Carter, Maria Nolt and Meredith Parker Buchanan breached their employment agreements after their resignations in January. MMA alleges the departures were part of a broader “corporate raid” by Lockton aimed at dismantling the Birmingham operation MMA acquired through its November 2024 purchase of McGriff Insurance Services. According to the complaint, Mr. Carter, formerly a senior vice president and producer, resigned effective Jan. 14 and joined Lockton as a vice president. Ms. Nolt and Ms. Buchanan, both marketing account executives, resigned the same day to become senior account executives at Lockton. MMA alleges the former employees immediately began soliciting restricted clients and recruiting colleagues after joining Lockton. The broker said at least five clients generating nearly $450,000 in annual revenue moved their business to Lockton, with additional solicitation efforts continuing. The complaint also alleges Lockton targeted additional Birmingham employees tied to some of the office’s largest accounts. Lockton was not named as a defendant. Lockton did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
