Jeremy Bredwell worked as an equipment sales representative for a company owned by Snap-on before accepting a position with another subsidiary in May 2023. He signed employment terms containing an arbitration provision, according to Jeremy Bredwell v. Snap-On Inc., et al., decided by the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District. The company withdrew the offer before he started the new position, citing performance issues in his existing job. His employment was subsequently terminated. Mr. Bredwell sued, alleging age discrimination, retaliation under the Missouri Human Rights Act and workers compensation retaliation. Snap-on argued that the arbitration provision required him to submit his claims to arbitration. The court found that the withdrawn offer did not create an enforceable contract because Mr. Bredwell had not begun performing the new job. The ruling did not address the merits of his discrimination or retaliation claims, nor did it provide details of Mr. Bredwell’s underlying workers compensation claim.
