After eight decades, it presumably had the cooking under control. The cleaning, according to a lawsuit, needed supervision. Middlesex Insurance is seeking $3.5 million from businesses it alleges contributed to an April 2025 fire at the city’s oldest steak restaurant, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported Friday. The suit alleges that cleaning crews repeatedly moved a gas range to reach the floor behind it, stretching its gas line until it split. Escaping gas ignited, allegedly setting off a blaze that caused extensive fire, smoke and water damage. The historic restaurant’s dark wood-and-leather booths largely survived. RingSide reopened about four months later, preserving a Portland dining tradition dating to World War II. Middlesex says it paid nearly $3.5 million to cover the losses. Its lawsuit names Linda’s Janitorial Services, installer Stainless Solutions and three maintenance and fire safety businesses: C&S Fire-Safe Services, Sigma Mechanical and Sanderson Fire Protection. None could be reached for comment by the news outlet.
