Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals, and the parties anticipate closing to occur before year-end. Boston-based General Indemnity Group and its subsidiaries, including United Casualty & Surety Insurance, surety placement platform BOSS Bonds and SuretyBonds.Market, specialize in commercial surety insurance and contract surety bonds, serving policyholders in all 50 states and Washington D.C. The deal gives Arizona-based CopperPoint additional product availability and nationwide operations, the insurer said in a statement. The General Indemnity Group office in Boston will “serve as a key regional hub,” the statement said. The acquired surety operations will complement CopperPoint’s construction business, Kellen Booher, president & CEO of the CopperPoint family of insurance companies, said in the statement. CopperPoint was founded in 1925 as the Arizona Workers Compensation state fund and became a mutual insurance company in 2013. CopperPoint Mutual Insurance Holding Co. is the corporate parent of CopperPoint Insurance Cos., Pacific Compensation Insurance and Alaska National Insurance.
