Berkley reports higher profit, lower catastrophe losses by Gavin Souter Financial Results , P/C Insurers W.R. Berkley Apr 21, 2026 W. R. Berkley on Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $515.2 million, a 23.4% increase over the same period last year, driven by lower catastrophe losses and higher investment income. Net premiums written rose 1.3% to $3.17 billion, the Greenwich, Connecticut-based insurer said. Current accident-year catastrophe losses fell 31.9% to $75.7 million. The company reported a combined ratio of 90.7%, compared with 90.9% a year earlier, indicating a slight improvement in underwriting performance. Net investment income increased 12.2% to $404.3 million.
