S.B. 1425 would add coroners, “medicolegal” death investigators, and qualifying coroner employees — workers whose duties “include and primarily consist of the determination of cause and manner of death, including death investigation, forensic pathology and related duties, and supportive administrative functions” — to the list of first responders eligible for workers compensation benefits for post-traumatic stress injuries. Under current Idaho law, most psychological injuries are not compensable unless they are tied to a physical injury. However, an exception allows first responders to receive benefits for post-traumatic stress injuries without an accompanying physical injury if certain conditions are met, including a diagnosis by a qualified professional and clear evidence the condition arose out of employment. The bill would take effect July 1. Related News Crawford names W.
