In Hub International Midwest Ltd. v. Leo Portes and Anthony Blanco, Hub alleges it lost more than $850,000 in annual revenue due to the brokers breaching confidentiality and non-solicitation agreements when they moved to Miami-based Eastern Insurance Group. According to the suit, filed Friday in federal court in Miami, Mr. Portes and Mr. Blanco joined Hub when it acquired JAG Insurance Group in 2022. Hub alleges that before they resigned Jan. 14, the brokers downloaded confidential files and deleted others in an attempt to “sabotage” Hub’s ability to retain business. On their last day at Hub, a real estate client they serviced sent Hub a request to change its broker of record, appointing EIG as its new broker, the suit says. “It is highly implausible that a client would move its longstanding business from Hub to a competitor so shortly after the announced resignations of defendants — the Hub employees who serviced them — without prior solicitations from defendants on a competitor’s behalf while they were still employed by Hub,” the complaint says. EIG, which is not a defendant in the suit, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
