That is, unless the future is cold pizza, late drivers and a lawsuit with extra cheese. Chaac Pizza Northeast, which operates 111 Pizza Hut restaurants in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, sued Pizza Hut on May 6 in Texas Business Court, alleging the chain forced stores to adopt Dragontail, an AI-powered delivery management platform that was supposed to “optimize” food delivery, according to Business Insider. Instead, Chaac alleges in the lawsuit, the system created “cascading operational breakdowns and customer dissatisfaction” after giving DoorDash drivers real-time visibility into kitchen workflows and order timing, according to the news outlet. The result, the franchisee claims, was less hot-and-ready and more hot mess. The franchisee says the damage topped $100 million in lost business and enterprise value.
