The dividend, requested by Gov. Mike DeWine, equals about 90% of premiums paid for policy year 2022, according to a statement from the BWC. It’s the state’s first workers compensation dividend since a $5 billion refund issued in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. BWC attributed the latest dividend to its fiscal management and investment performance. Ohio had the fifth-lowest workers compensation premium rates among the 50 states and Washington, D.C., according to Oregon’s most recent biennial Workers’ Compensation Premium Rate Ranking Study.
