Markel Insurance, the insurance operation within Markel Group Inc., has announced the appointment of Charlotte Major as Senior Claims Adjuster – Professional Indemnity, effective immediately. In her new role, based in London, Major will focus on resolving complex PI claims for clients across multiple professions, including construction firms, accountants, and insurance brokers. She will work closely with Markel’s PI underwriting team and provide expert advice on contract wordings, policy language, claims data, and potential claims scenarios for renewal business, ensuring clients receive optimal, tailored coverage. Additionally, Major will be tasked with strengthening broker relationships to deliver a more targeted, value-added claims service. She will also take on a mentoring role, focusing on the development of claims handlers within her team. She will be reporting to Rachel Tighe, Claims Manager – PI at Markel International, who commented: “The global professional indemnity insurance market is expected to increase from US $46.06 billion to US$68.19 billion by 2034, driven by increased litigation, regulatory developments and emerging cyber and AI developments impacting professional service firms.” “Charlotte’s impressive legal background and work across multiple insurance classes will complement and further strengthen our PI Claims team. With her cross-functional expertise, I’m confident Charlotte will help elevate our award-winning claims service, while maintaining our exceptional standards so we can continue delivering a firm, fast and fair claims experience for broker partners and customers.” Major has 15 years’ experience working in litigation and pre-litigation roles, with a focus on motor, employers’ liability, public liability and professional indemnity claims. She is joining Markel from Collegiate Management Services Ltd, a PI managing general agent (MGA) and AmTrust Europe subsidiary, where she most recently served as Senior Claims Manager. Prior to that, she was a PI claims adjuster, responsible for assessing and resolving complex claim matters, often to tight deadlines, while managing junior members in her team.
