The wholly owned surplus lines insurer will begin underwriting commercial property risks in the fourth quarter through brokers and program administrators, Aviva said in a statement. Last year, Aviva announced plans to expand into the U.S. specialty market and establish a surplus lines business. It named former Everest Insurance executive Mike Karmilowicz president. Aviva Specialty initially will focus on commercial property and plans to expand into cyber, specialty and financial lines, and specialty casualty. The insurer will write business on Aviva Insurance Limited paper and can write risks nationwide, Aviva said.
