Mr. Handen will lead the trade credit and political risk insurance business in the Americas, including underwriting performance, strategic growth and portfolio development, Markel said in a statement. Based in Baltimore, he will report to Phil Amlot, head of trade credit at Markel International, the statement said. Mr. Handen was most recently vice president, credit specialties, Americas for Atradius. Prior to that, he was group head of commercial underwriting at Allianz Trade. Mr. Handen succeeds Arjan van de Wall, who is retiring and will function in a part-time capacity until his departure in January 2027.
