A San Francisco homeowner has sued The Bot Company, alleging that employees of the robot startup rented his Airbnb “under false pretenses” and used the place to test household-chore robots, according to reporting by The San Francisco Standard. The booking sounded normal enough: eight colleagues visiting the Bay Area for work needed reliable Wi-Fi. But homeowner Sean Donovan said his Ring camera later captured people moving large black cases into the house. That night, the security system was shut off. Two days later, he stopped by to take out the trash and saw black cables taped to the walls and a man typing on a laptop next to what appeared to be a robot, according to the news outlet. Then things got messy. After 11 days, when the guests checked out, Mr. Donovan alleges that dishes and glasses had been moved, appliances were scratched, dishwasher racks were bent and removed, furniture was stained, bathroom tiles were chipped and shoes had vanished from a locked closet. Mr. Donovan is seeking $12,383.50 in damages and lost income he claims he would have received if the property had been properly booked for commercial use. The Bot Company did not respond to the news outlet’s request for comment.
