The organization, which manages hundreds of historic sites in England, has introduced “Ice Cream Splat Insurance” at 18 attractions, including Stonehenge, Dover Castle and the Battle of Hastings site. Through Aug. 31, visitors who suffer the sudden and accidental loss of a scoop of Northern Bloc-brand ice cream can return to the point of purchase and receive a replacement at no charge, according to an English Heritage statement. As with any insurance policy, though, it pays to read the small print. The terms and conditions spell out the coverage period, eligible locations and eligible ice creams — cones and cups qualify — as well as some important limits and exclusions. There is, for example, a strict one-splat limit, with no policy reinstatement – drop the replacement and you are out of luck. The coverage applies only when the ice cream is accidentally dropped at the site during opening hours, replacement is subject to availability and cash equivalents are excluded. Would-be ice cream fraudsters should also beware: Management reserves the right to deny a claim where misuse is suspected.
