He will lead the global specialty business and oversee strategy across specialty classes worldwide, Willis Re said in a statement. Mr. Summers most recently was deputy CEO, global specialties and global head of marine and energy specialty at Guy Carpenter, the reinsurance brokerage arm of Marsh. Before joining Guy Carpenter in 2011, he was CEO of Cooper Gay. Mr. Summers will join the reinsurance broker’s senior leadership team, Lucy Clarke, president, risk and broking at Willis Towers Watson and a board member of Willis Re, said in the statement. WTW launched Willis Re via a joint venture with Bain Capital in 2024. Its re-entry to the treaty reinsurance broking market followed the 2021 sale of its former reinsurance business to Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. after the proposed Aon-WTW merger fell apart.
