Mr. Markel informed the board of his decision to retire September 3 and the new appointments are effective today. Additionally, Simon Wilson and Andrew Crowley, previously executive vice presidents of Markel Group, have been promoted to the roles of co-presidents of Markel Group, Markel said in a statement. Mr. Wilson will serve as CEO of Markel Insurance and Mr. Crowley as CEO of Markel Ventures, the statement said. Michael O’Reilly, Markel board member and former vice chairman and chief financial officer at Chubb, will remain the lead independent director. Markel will also establish a l eadership c ouncil comprised of the lead independent director, chairman and CEO, and co-presidents.
