The exception was umbrella liability, where average renewal rates were up 10.5%, an increase over 10.1% in December. Commercial property renewal rate increases averaged 7.2% in January, a drop from 8.3% in the previous month. Business owners and general liability insurance both rose 6.9%, each down from roughly 7.5% in December. Commercial auto renewal rates were up 5.6% in January, compared with 6.5% the month before. Average workers compensation renewal rates were down 2.2% in January, compared with down 1.8% in December. All of those lines except workers comp saw rising renewal rates year over year, according to Ivans, an insurance data exchange unit of Applied Systems.
