Off Beat Mar 19, 2026 Music company BMG Rights is demanding satisfaction from artificial intelligence company Anthropic, alleging it shattered copyright law by reproducing hundreds of lyrics from The Rolling Stones and other top artists, Reuters reported. In a complaint filed Tuesday, BMG tried to shine a light on what it described as a practice in which AI companies are happy to train their models on songs by hit artists such as the Stones, Bruno Mars and Ariana Grande without authorization. The company cited 493 examples of alleged copyright infringement, arguing that AI developers are ignoring the law to get what they want. Damages under U.S. law can range from hundreds of dollars to $150,000 per work, Reuters noted, a respectable sum at stake in a case that shows little sign of fading away.
