Mr. Booher joined the Phoenix-based workers compensation and commercial insurer in 2025 as president and chief operating officer , overseeing field and operating functions and helping advance strategic initiatives. He succeeds Mr. Schmittlein, who will remain as chair of the board. Mr. Schmittlein, who joined the company in 2016, led its transition from a single-state, monoline workers compensation insurer to a super-regional property/casualty insurer, including acquisitions of Pacific Compensation Insurance in 2017 and Alaska National Insurance in 2019.
