Industries including pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, aviation and automotive are among the most affected by hail damage, the report said. Damage to aircraft is the costliest cause of claims, accounting for 16% of the value of claims analyzed in the report, while solar panel damage represented 6%. Vehicle damage was a leader in claims frequency. Roof damage is another key cost driver, particularly for warehouses, manufacturing facilities and data centers where large roof areas and high-value equipment heighten exposure, the report said. The findings are based on an analysis of more than 3,000 claims totaling about €2.2 billion ($2.5 billion), including losses shared with other insurers. Aging infrastructure and development in storm-prone regions are compounding losses, while inflation and outdated building standards are increasing exposure for insurers and policyholders, the report said. “What was once considered routine property damage now increasingly involves high-value assets, from aircraft fleets to solar installations, driving claim severity to levels that demand a fundamentally different response,” Nikolaus Breitenberger, Allianz Commercial’s global head of claims intelligence and core business solutions, risk consulting, said in the report. Severe convective storm losses totaled more than $200 billion globally over the past three years, with about 85% occurring in the U.S., Allianz said.
