Perhaps they should start checking the nearest light pole. That’s where one New York City teenager took his career search, posting a question that cuts through the usual networking formalities: “Do you have a cool job and a big heart?” According to The Wall Street Journal, 16-year-old Avi Lichtenstein is trying to figure out what to do with his life by asking strangers to let him shadow them at work. The high school junior spent about $500 of his savings to hire two people he found on Craigslist to distribute more than 300 flyers across the city, attaching them to streetlamps and other makeshift billboards. His goal: shadow one person a week during the school year before tackling college applications. So far, his career sampling has included a dog groomer, a radio show host and a ramen shop owner. An airline captain and a tattoo artist have also expressed interest. One visit even resulted in a part-time job offer. Give the kid credit: Plenty of adults still don’t know what they want to be when they grow up. He’s at least collecting evidence.
