Barrett Brown has resigned as an officer of Brown & Brown, nearly 10 months after taking a personal leave of absence from the brokerage. Mr. Brown, who previously served as president of Brown & Brown’s retail segment, voluntarily resigned “for good reason” effective Monday, according to a regulatory filing. He also resigned from officer and director positions at the brokerage’s subsidiaries and affiliates. He will remain employed by Brown & Brown through July 31, 2027, to provide transition assistance and training, the filing said. During the transition period, Mr. Brown will continue to receive his $1 million annual base salary and will be eligible for $1.3 million in bonuses. Under the transition agreement, Mr. Brown will also receive $2.5 million in severance, payable in installments in August 2027 and August 2028, and $130,000 for legal, financial, tax planning and career transition expenses, the filing said. He also agreed to a one-year noncompete following the end of his employment. Brown & Brown did not provide further details in the filing about the circumstances surrounding his resignation. Mr. Brown is the brother of Brown & Brown President and CEO J. Powell Brown. Mr. Brown took a personal leave of absence in October 2025. At that time, Brown & Brown named Chief Operating Officer Steve Hearn president of its retail segment. Mr. Brown had led the retail business since 2020.
