A former captain and expediter at Cesar, a Manhattan restaurant led by chef Cesar Ramirez, filed a proposed class action accusing its operator, 333 Hospitality Group, of withholding tips, paying less than minimum wage and denying workers overtime pay, according to the New York Post. The lawsuit alleges that tips were improperly shared with managers and that Mr. Ramirez personally directed employees to underreport their hours. The proposed class could include as many as 40 current and former service employees, according to an attorney for the plaintiffs. The restaurant’s attorney declined to comment on the pending litigation. The defendants are expected to respond to the allegations in September. Cesar opened in 2024 at 333 Hudson St. and earned two Michelin stars within five months. The Michelin Guide has praised its seafood-focused menu and Mr. Ramirez’s nightly presence in the kitchen. It is not the chef’s first brush with a wage-and-hour dispute. Employees of Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, where Mr. Ramirez previously worked, brought a labor law lawsuit in 2014 that ended in an undisclosed settlement.
