Apparently, for the deluxe math-error package. Albany’s Office of Audit and Control stopped a $2.9 million payment to insurer CDPHP after determining that Albany only owed $729,912, the Times Union reported. Chief City Auditor Sam Fein said other bills already moving through the payment process had mistakenly been counted again. Mr. Fein said the error likely would have been corrected eventually, but only after the cash-strapped city had effectively given the insurer a multimillion-dollar, interest-free loan. The auditor’s midyear review also found nearly $100,000 in incorrectly calculated health insurance opt-out payments and more than $6,000 in taxes and fees charged to city credit cards despite Albany’s tax-exempt status. Officials found no evidence of wrongdoing.
