Bias in a model’s training can be replicated in results, and AI model errors can lead to the destruction of data, the report said. Also, AI systems can produce “hallucinations,” or false information. There are also potential regulatory and intellectual property issues, said Armilla and Lockton Re, the reinsurance business of broker Lockton. Such exposures can cascade across multiple lines of insurance, including cyber, casualty, directors and officers and employment practices liability. “Systemic risk” also is a potential problem if a widely deployed AI model or system causes disruption across multiple organizations or geographies. The emerging and evolving nature of the technology and its potential threats makes analysis more difficult. “The risks and long-term implications associated with AI are still being studied, but there is limited visibility so far,” Lockton Re and Armilla said in the report. Some new products offering affirmative coverage for exposures such as model error are beginning to address and close any potential gaps in coverage that may arise, the report said.
