Lawson, retired chairman and CEO of FM, died Saturday at age 69. Mr. Lawson joined the Johnston, Rhode Island-based insurer in 1979 and held various senior roles in engineering, underwriting, and operations before being named CEO in 2015 . He retired as CEO in 2021 but stayed on as chairman until 2024. Born in Danville, Illinois, Mr. Lawson joined FM after graduating with a degree in safety engineering from Illinois State University. Among his achievements as CEO, he was “a steady hand” during the COVID-19 pandemic and was instrumental in modernizing and expanding the FM research campus, the company said in a statement. “His impact on FM and many contributions to the organization cannot be overstated, as he was instrumental in creating the company we are today,” said Malcolm Roberts, the current chairman and CEO of FM, in the statement.
