The department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration said its investigation found both employers exposed workers to “explosion, struck-by and high-pressure injection hazards.” U.S. Steel failed to follow required safety protocols during hazardous work involving inflammable gas, OSHA said in a statement Wednesday. In addition, cleaning services contractor MPW failed to provide a relief valve for a high-pressure water system, among other violations, it said. OSHA cited U.S. Steel for eight violations and proposed $118,214 in penalties. MPW was cited for six violations, with proposed penalties of $61,473.
