Not counting loan or lease payments, those of us with vehicles peg our annual cost at $2,738, according to survey results disclosed Tuesday. Not even close. It’s $7,303, per the survey, from consumer finance company Synchrony. For millennials and Gen Z it’s in the $10,000 range. The biggest factor is gas, which averages $1,956 a year, according to the survey. Next is insurance, averaging $1,730. Service and repairs and maintenance were next but far behind, at $659 and $622, respectively. Why are we so far off in our estimates? The survey didn’t go down that road.
