Health and safety remained the top risk, with 77% rating it as very or extremely important. Data loss and cyber attacks ranked next, with 76% and 75%, respectively (see chart). Geopolitical risk was rated very or extremely important by 59% of executives. About one-third of the 975 senior executives polled by Willis Towers Watson for the survey were from European companies. Thirteen percent were from North America, with the rest from Asia and elsewhere. Significant variations were found by region. North Americans prioritized cyber attacks and were the only respondents to rank artificial intelligence and machine learning among the top seven risks. Europeans were more concerned about geopolitical risk, while Latin Americans ranked insolvency highly. Globally, 56% of executives ranked artificial intelligence as a very or extremely important risk, up from 51% last year. The biggest concerns were errors and misinformation, followed by fraud and social engineering and strategic failure to adopt AI. Sixty-two percent of respondents said they indemnify their directors and officers to the full extent allowed by law, down slightly from 64% last year. Seventy-three percent said their indemnity limits for such coverage were sufficient.
