Highlighting the event was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Danielle Lisenbey, retired CEO and president of MedRisk and former CEO and global president of Broadspire Services, a unit of Crawford & Co. In addition, teams of professionals from across the industry were honored for projects they collaborated on in the field of commercial insurance. Technology innovations in claims, insurance placement, risk management and underwriting also were celebrated. Finalists in 13 categories were selected by Business Insurance staff from more than 150 nominations. The winners were selected by a panel of risk managers who independently assessed each of the finalists. The 2026 USIA winners are: Belonging and Inclusion Initiative of the Year: NFP Broker Team of the Year: Marsh Risk Claims Management Team of the Year: George Hills County of Los Angeles Claims Technology Innovation of the Year: Aon Community Outreach Project of the Year: Galway Insurance Consulting Team of the Year: The Hummel Group Insurance Placement Technology Innovation of the Year: Kinetic Insurer Team of the Year: Beazley Legal Team of the Year: McGuireWoods Risk Management Technology Innovation of the Year: FM Safety Technology Innovation of the Year: Zurich North America Specialty Intermediary Team of the Year: LIRG Underwriting Technology Innovation of the Year: Descartes The awards program, which began in 2017, also raises funds to support organizations dedicated to fostering talent. Business Insurance endows scholarships administered by the Spencer Educational Foundation. The foundation provides funds to risk management and insurance students and grants to support risk management and insurance programs, including developing programs at universities without risk management degree programs, including HBCUs.
