Gulf Marine Products sued A La Carte Specialty Foods and its president, Karl D. Turner, in federal court in Louisiana, alleging they continued using the Boudreaux trademark after Gulf Marine revoked permission, according to reporting by Seafood Source. The arrangement was apparently cooked up without much paperwork. Gulf Marine says the companies had close family and business ties, shared office space and never put their licensing agreement in writing. A La Carte used the Boudreaux name on breaded oysters, while Gulf Marine says it helped connect the company with a Chinese supplier, stored the finished products and inspected them for quality. The relationship began to boil over in October 2025, when Gulf Marine told A La Carte that it wanted the Boudreaux brand for itself. Gulf Marine alleges A La Carte kept selling Boudreaux-labeled oysters after an April 2026 deadline and later moved the products to another warehouse, leaving Gulf Marine unable to oversee quality. The suit also claims A La Carte launched a new “Fansea” brand while continuing to use Gulf Marine’s product codes, allegedly causing confusion among retailers and distributors. Gulf Marine, which says it is the world’s largest crawfish importer, is seeking up to $2 million in statutory damages, attorney fees and destruction of the allegedly infringing products. A La Carte had not responded to the complaint as of the article’s publication.
