Robert Berkley Jr. Financial Results , P/C Insurers W.R. Berkley Jul 21, 2026 W.R. Berkley’s net income increased 12.7% to $452.3 million in the second quarter, as higher investment income, lower catastrophe losses and improved underwriting results offset modest premium growth. Net premiums written rose 2.4% to $3.43 billion, the Greenwich, Connecticut-based insurer said Monday. Current accident-year catastrophe losses declined 37.1% to $62.4 million, while the combined ratio improved to 90% from 91.6% a year earlier. Net investment income increased 10.4% to $418.7 million. Commercial casualty lines continued to provide attractive growth opportunities despite increased competition in some areas, while conditions in property insurance remained under pressure, W. Robert Berkley Jr., chairman, president and CEO, said on an earnings call with analysts. Average rate increases excluding workers compensation were 3.8% during the quarter, Mr. Berkley said.
