Gov. Ned Lamont on Monday signed H. 5003, providing full-pay salary continuation benefits instead of workers compensation indemnity benefits that are equal to 75% of their average weekly earnings and capped at the state’s average weekly wage. The bill would also provide coverage for certain out-of-pocket expenses and lost wages for court appearances. Compensation for assaulted teachers and health care workers would be defined to include expenses reasonably incurred for medical or other services “necessary as a result of such assault,” as well as lost wages “due to an absence due to a court appearance in connection with such assault.” The workers compensation provision in H.5003 takes effect Oct. 1.
